RWMC 1.21.4 Update Notes

Last updated 3 months ago

New Biomes, Items, Structures, and More

RWMC now contains all the long-awaited features that came with the 1.21.4 update. This includes the Pale Garden Biome, the Creaking mob, bundle additions, entirely new structures and dungeons, and an entirely new wood set for building!

  • Added support for 1.21.4 biomes, blocks and mobs

  • 1.21.4 game stability and chunk rendering improvements

  • Added new vanilla structures with "Walls of Conquest" versions

  • Added WWOO variant of the Pale Garden

  • Added Dungeons and Taverns datapack Pale Garden additions

A Stronger Emphasis on "Vanilla"

While the server never really "relied" on mods, it still required one or two to be installed to see custom gear, mobs and certain server features. This was confusing, as I would be promoting the modpack for a "generally better experience," while also claiming the server was "vanilla friendly" at the same time.

As of now, there is NO reliance on any mods whatsoever for the core features of Rob World.

Instead, mods that you now install will either be Unsupported (Has no impact on server or gameplay), or Supported, (Has unique client-sided interactions but does not affect gameplay).

These Supported Mods Include:

  • Simple Voice Chat — Proximity voice chat with other players who also have this mod installed

  • Distant Horizons * — More details in "Server-side Distant Horizons" section

  • Entity Model Features — Replaces vanilla creepers with custom confetti clown ones (that I made)

  • Entity Texture Features — Allows additional mob texture features like random textures for mob variants

The RWMC Modpack page is still up in-case you want to see the full list of supported mods, or download the modpack that I like to use.

Custom Items: Without Mods

With the help of the CIT Resewn client mod, you used to be able to change the texture of any armor or weapon, just by giving it a specific name. However, this interaction has its downsides; mainly relying on player cataloging and custom armors eventually feeling less special or unique.

With 1.21.4, I've gone through every CIT item and armor and converted them into independent pieces of gear, bypassing the need of CIT Resewn completely. All the loot systems remain generally the same, but discovered custom armors will now feel much more special, unique, and customized.

Converted the following CIT item packs into independent custom items:

  • Brewery Items

  • Conquest Armors

  • Conquest Shields

  • Riki Armors

  • Zelda Shields

  • Fantasy Weapons

  • Teyvat Weapons

  • Mythic Armor sets

  • Mythic Artifacts

  • Mythic Shields

Server Optimizations, & Better Performance

The only way I could convert CIT items to their own custom items was to completely rewrite how the gear was created using a completely new plugin. I never realized how slow and badly optimized the server was. Now, the server runs faster, systems are more streamlined, and general gameplay feels a lot more responsive and smooth.

  • Faster resource pack loading times on login

  • General performance improvements

  • Switched from Itemsadder (old) to Nexo (new) for resourcepack handling

  • Readjusted loot-tables to better fit custom items

Server-side Distant Horizons

Lastly, I have news that DH added support for multiplayer servers and allow server-side DH chunk loading. While it isn't completely server-side yet, the barriers to entry of DH are getting lower as more of the work has shifted from being focused on client hardware to server hardware.

To put it simply: The server will allow you to load DH chunks without you needing to discover them now, as long as you have the mod installed on your client. This makes the client experience significantly better, and less reliant on having beefy hardware.

  • Added Distant Horizons Beta support

If you're interested in the details of the DH update, check this video:

You will still need to install DH on your client to notice anything on the server

If you don't have the mod installed, Minecraft chunks will just load normally.
